10 Ways to Make Time for Rest in Less Than 10 Minutes
Want to learn how to make time for rest and rejuvenation like a pro? Whether you need rest when you are recovering from being sick, exhausted, or just looking for a healthier routine, here are ten ways to make time for rest in 10 minutes or less. In my global organization, we know that the spiritual practice of rest and refreshment is key to personal and missional growth. We were created to do our best work out of God-ordained rest. As a leader, I want to always seek to nurture and steward our staff, our strategic volunteers, and our global mission well. That’s why we offered a full-month sabbatical for…
Cancer and Coronavirus
[A Guest Post by Mary Gunther]I reflect on the two cancers I had in my thirties as a tremendous gift. A gift for then and a gift for now because what I learned in the midst of cancer is still applicable to the coronavirus that faces us. I didn’t think too much about my cancer. At the time of my diagnosis and treatments, my six children were all under the age of 10. They needed my attention. And quite frankly that was a gift too that kept me from being absorbed looking at medical articles on the internet for survival rates based on my stage of disease. Yes, the first days of not knowing what…

Dr. Moon Is Not Stressed:
A Radio InterviewThe title’s a take byway of a recent blog from Dr Teresa Moon, “I’m Not Stressed”, who’s the founding President and CEO of the Institute for Cultural Communicators, and the good Doctor popped by our roaming studio – courtesy of CLA – to chat about how her organization equips youth to integrate lessons from both high-tech and high-touch learning environments for real- world application. Too Blessed to be Stressed
All of my team members have bitmojis – those cute little cartoon caricatures that communicate all sorts of attitudes and emotions. We use them regularly in informal communication. Flavoring our correspondence with bitmojis often lowers the temp on otherwise challenging topics. One bitmoji is my cartoon self declaring I am “2 blessed to be stressed.” I don’t love this one. It actually kind of annoys me. Take the past few days for example. I’m preparing to facilitate a day-long seminar for Christian women in leadership of the topic of “Rest.” The experience is designed to help women consider the ways God calls us to rest in His promises, His goodness,…
I’m Not Stressed
“You are very sick. Are you under a lot of stress?” The doctor leaned over my hospital bed, waiting for my reply. I responded, “I don’t think so.” At 28 years old, I had in six months time lost my grandmother, with whom I was very close, and my father-in-law, who died in our home. The mother of two toddlers, I was caregiver for my mother-in-law through her aortic bypass. I was in graduate school while teaching full time. My husband’s health was failing and we were losing his business. That’s when I was hospitalized. I needed a reality check. Self-awareness is an essential leadership competency. I was not self-aware…
Lessons in Rest and Renewal from My Walk by the Lake
I like to see a lot happen in a hurry. I’m wired for productivity. An ordinary walk for me is usually spent multi-tasking – phone calls, podcasts, audio books. Today’s walk was different. My hosts recommended the walking path around the lake behind their home. So, on Sunday morning, before church – but after coffee – I headed toward the lake. I told myself I would be distinctly focused on my very clear purpose. I had been reading about rest and renewal for Christian leaders. I needed it for myself. I felt like I was on a runaway train – and not on the right track! My schedule was overfilled…
